Robyn Rowan Hitchcock (born 3 March 1953) is an English singer-songwriter and guitarist. While primarily a vocalist and guitarist, he also plays harmonica, piano and bass guitar.Coming to prominence in the late 1970s with The Soft Boys, Hitchcock afterward launched a prolific solo career. His musical and lyrical styles have been influenced by the likes of Bob Dylan, John Lennon and Syd Barrett. Hitchcock's lyrics tend to include surrealism, comedic elements, characterisations of English eccentrics, and melancholy depictions of everyday life.He was signed to two major American labels (A&M Records, then Warner Bros.) over the course of the 1980s and '90s, but mainstream success has been limited. He has maintained a loyal cult following and has often earned strong critical reviews over a steady stream of album releases and live performances.
[on a singer/songwriter safari to Africa] The thing I liked best was a pair of cheetahs, probably two brothers. They stalked around. They were camping through the bush. They were like two dudes hanging out together. Two guys who were obviously used to operating as a team. They dressed alike and stalked around. A few minutes later they'd killed something and were eating it together. Apparently they do go off and mate with females. But the guys tend to hang out together for life. It made me think of the Rolling Stones really. I was picturing hem as young versions of Ron (Wood) and Keith (Richards). Up to no good in the bush.

When I was very small I was going to be a doctor. But later, my only real interest was time travel. When I realized that was impossible, I gave up on the world.
