Photographer and painter, Alberto Rizzo (1931-2004), was born May 2, 1931 in La Spezia, outside of Rome, Italy. Rizzo first trained in ballet in Italy and came to America in 1960 to continue his dancing in California.In 1961, he began his career as a photographer and in 1965, he moved to New York, NY. There, he established his career as a fashion photographer and began his critical relationship with prominent art director, Bea Feitler at Harper's Bazaar. This relationship resulted in Rizzo working extensively with the world's most important fashion publications. His clients included: Vogue Paris, Italian Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Mademoiselle, G., Linea Italia, Playboy, Donna, Domus, Bloomingdale's, Bonwit Teller, Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue, Revlon, Charles of the Ritz, Chanel, Clinique, Max Factor, Bulgari, Seiko, Piaget, Danskin, Wrangler and Lee Jeans, and Vanity Fair.In the late 1980s, Rizzo began experimenting with photoprinting on different surfaces and in 1994 he filed a patent for Photoprinting on Metal and Similar Substrates with the United States Patent Office. He was the recipient of several awards throughout the late 1960s and early 1970s, and in 1972 he received the Coty American Fashion Critics' Award for his work. Rizzo’s photographic work has been published in manifold leading international magazines. His work is also included in publications including: Italian Eyes: Italian Fashion Photography from 1951 to Today, published by Charta/Fondazione Pitti Immagine Discovery, 2005; 125 Great Moments of Harper's Bazaar: A Commemorative Collection of Outstanding Photographs, Illustrations, and Texts That Have Appeared in Harper's Bazaar, published by Hearst Communications, 1993; and Snoopy Around the World (Le Tour du Monde de Snoopy), Photographs by Alberto Rizzo and commentaries by Charles M.
